The Mike and Anne and How They Met Story
by Anne

Mike and Anne had the great fortune of meeting one evening in the Spring of 2001 at the home of Karen Schueller. After a night of feasting at Buca di Beppo's in Saint Paul, the two found themselves sitting next to each other while the group talked. Some may call this coincidence, others a stroke of good luck, but for those in the know, it was simply a matter of good planning. You see, Mike had his eye on Anne for many weeks at that point, mesmerized by her story telling abilities. Anne, after having seen him playing 500, had also been interested in hearing a little more about Mike.

And so the two chatted. They found they had many things in common, so later in the evening Anne made her big move. Being the progressive and confident woman that she is, Anne asked if anyone would like to use her extra ticket to see the Dali Lama, who was speaking on the University campus that week. Even though the whole room knew that Anne was speaking directly to Mike, he still maintains that she did not directly ask him to go, so this cannot be counted as a first date. Nonetheless, he eagerly announced that he would like to go with her, and so it was a date- I mean, an event involving two people to see something mutually of interest. (Otherwise known as a date.)

On May 9th, accompanied by their chaperones Ron and Assumpta Eiden (who did not at the time know they were acting in this role), Anne and Mike enjoyed their first event together. The Dali Lama had many meaningful things to say, and his words sparked some of their first conversations. Afterwards, they enjoyed a sandwich at Blimpie's, and as Mike left Assumpta and Anne at work, he knew that he needed to spend more time with her.

On Mother's day the following weekend, Mike got the courage up to ask Anne out on their "first" date- lunch and a walk around Lake Harriet in Minneapolis. As they walked around the lake it was obvious how much they had in common and how easy conversation was between them. After about six hours of walking, chatting, and messily eating ice cream cones, the first date came to an end.

Since then, Mike and Anne have had many great experiences together. They've traveled quite a bit, visiting Winnipeg with friends, Anne's sister Shelley in Jackson Hole, WY, Eric's parents Ivan and Dina Nuxoll in Greencreek, ID, exploring Seattle, spending Christmas in Indianapolis, and taking a vacation in the Netherlands. Mike's taught Anne how to play 500, and Anne has explained to Mike the finer intricacies of biochemistry. They're starting a whole new adventure now, moving to Rochester, MN, and beginning a whole new future. They thank everyone's who's taken the time to read this story and hope that they see all of you soon!
